My HS Story
Who we are
Belair at Bowie was a rapidly growing suburb of Washington, DC started in the 1960’s with many young families moving to buy newer, affordable Levitt-built homes for their growing family while remaining 30 minutes from downtown DC and convenient to Annapolis, Baltimore and the beaches at Ocean City. Literally, hundreds of students graduate from Bowie High School every year and thousands between 1967 thru today.
We are a non-denominational, non-affiliated, Christ-centered group of former Bowie High School students who want to share our faith stories with others from our high school in the hopes it will lead them to seek life-changing faith in Jesus. We don’t have all the answers but through our mistakes, others will find they are not alone in their life struggles.
From this small beginning, we’d like to help other high schools start similar outreach to their alumni and have developed tools and templates to share. If interested, please use the Contact Us to inquire.
How My HS Story was born
Two brothers who graduated from BHS in the 70’s were sharing how people were contacting them from high school that hadn’t had previous contact for decades. Mid-lifers and older alumni were struggling with real life issues and asking “What’s it all about?” “Is this all there is in life?” They began to get questions on aging parents, marital issues, child and grandchild issues, suicide, death, etc. People, who only knew each other when they were 15-18 years old, began pouring out their heart and their lives trusting a relationship that had been dormant for decades. Recognizing this bond and trust of friendship sealed during their teens, the two brothers began to explore how to reach out to their classmates who were seeking answers to life. After much discussion and prayer, the My HS Story website was launched.
Our Vision
Our goal is to use this website and other social media outreach to connect with our friends and alumni at Bowie High School in Bowie, MD. If successful we hope to help the other 26,000 high schools in the U.S. establish similar “HS Story” sites throughout MD and the rest of the country. We pray that stories from people like you will provide hope and inspiration for a life changing journey to discover true purpose in life.
